Since the advent of the ubiquitous iPod, students have been flocking to Apple products in droves. Apple has earned a reputation for being the hip and modern alternative to Microsoft, thus becoming intensely popular among teens and young adults — but Microsoft is betting that Windows 8 will change all of that.
According to Microsoft, Windows 8 will make managing programs easier and will truly integrate cloud computing, finally bringing Microsoft fully into the world of smart phones and tablets, markets which have been dominated by their competitors.
To be fair, Microsoft has hardly been in trouble — Microsoft Office is still the program of choice for students, professionals, and everyone in between. Word is the default document software for schools and companies across the world. But with Windows 8, Microsoft hopes to reassert its role in the OS world. At the very least, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft fares against Google and Apple.
